How to Hot Wire an ac with failed electronics
Electronic controls can be expensive. One thing that can be done in a pinch is to straight wire or hot wire a window unit so it will work without controls. Using older recycled mercury based controls to shut down the unit makes sense to the budget minded DIY type person. I made a how to video:
Super Capacity 465 Stove Fixed!!!
This newer type stove uses Robertshaw technology similar to that used in HVAC high efficiency furnaces. The igniter does 2 things. It lights the gas and then it turns into a thermocouple and senses the flames. The brains feel the heat so to speak by measuring the resistance in the Kanthal type rod aka the spark igniter. The broil would work fine but the bake would not. It would only come on for a sec then go right back out. So I cleaned the spark igniter with steel wool and she started working. I replaced the igniter after determining the control was not the probo. Made a crude video of it:
Granny's ice maker quits. easy fix!
Granny's ice maker quit the other day and the reason was the water in our area is a bit harder than other areas. Anyway here is a tip for a DIY type person that does not want to pay a big service charge for an easy fix. So I made a video on the fly using my video camera in my cell phone. It's ugly and unscripted but very useful info:
